Taipei
The spring holiday has been in the rear view mirror for some time now so I should probably back up a bit and update you on where we went and what we did last March.
The spring semester started exactly 1 week ago and during that first week I was eager to find out where the students travelled over the spring holiday. I was also itching to tell someone where my family went: Taipei.
It’s a rather odd story but last December my youngest daughter and I were home one afternoon – she was doing homework and I was folding laundry – and we had Netflix on in the background. I looked up and noticed that a special streaming episode about a famous rock climber was about to start. Many, many years ago I was an avid rock climber so of course I took notice. The climber, Alex Honnold, was about to free solo (translation: no rope) the Taipei 101 skyscraper.
It was riveting to watch needless to say and the aerial photography and helicopter footage really drew attention the city of Taipei. I had been years ago but don’t really remember much… anyway, my family and I had been discussing a “local” get-away for a few months – Seoul, South Korea seemed within reach, but I was not thrilled at that idea. Now suddenly here is this amazing spotlight on Taiwan and the city of Taipei and so it was decided: we would plan a short trip to Taipei.
A few months later, in mid-March, we stepped out of the Taipei International Airport and grabbed a taxi to our hotel.
We had a great time and I have many stories and photos to share but I will delay posting any of that until tomorrow.
Stay tuned…
