To be honest, I shouldn’t trash talk this route. It’s super convenient to access from where I live and, since 90% of the route follows a designated cycle/pedestrian path, it’s extremely safe. However, it’s rather boring, it’s pancake flat and on the weekends it is f#$king crowded! If anyone gets hurt on these cycle paths I guarantee it’s on a weekend and it involves a collision with another cyclist or a pedestrian who steps in front of a cyclist without looking first.
Anyway, a few days ago I woke up planning to ride somewhere but because I wasn’t that motivated or energetic, I decided to ride this route. I briefly followed the Onda River to around the Shinyokohama area where that river joined the larger, Tsurumi River. I rode south along the Tsurumi River to a point just above Kawasaki Station where I turned east for a few kilometers of “city cycling” before jumping on the Tama River. At this point, you can ride further south to Haneda Airport or head north; I turned my bike north. Eventually I reached YomiuriLand amusement park and picked my way back through city traffic to eventually reach Tsurukawa Station and home.
A decent distance but because this route lacks any climbing, it’s a relatively easy morning on the bike.
